Backstage at Jil Sander today, models’ pure skin and softly shaded features were the picture of soft femininity—with one exception: A thick, boyish, “feathered” brow that heightened the appearance of each girl’s youthful, healthy good looks. To create the perfect shape, makeup artist Pat McGrath was using a pencil to fill in holes, then going over the brow with powder—but that wasn’t the real secret to her handwork. To ensure a brow that’s “not too blockish, not too fake, but still with a bit of depth,” she likes to sweep a clean spooley brush upward through the hairs to remove the perfect amount of excess pigment and ensure “a more organic shape.” And yes—it’s really that easy.
